Session 4: Careers that are not suitable for women

Are there really jobs that are not suitable for women? Can women overcome this view that reduces their abilities and prove themselves? Does our society suffer from stereotyping women and restricting them to specific roles? Does a woman have the ability to do these things but does not get the chance? Does a man refuse the participation of women in these acts so as not to compete with them? Do women take leadership positions in non-sovereign portfolios such as human rights and deny the receipt of other ministries such as defense because of this profiling?

On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, the fourth panel discussion on the youth project (different visions) was held. The fourth group chose the theme of “unusual work for women.” The unusual work of women is the work in which the society does not accept women’s work because they are more men. Or to challenge prehistoric traditions and societal perspectives on women’s roles.

The participants discussed the framing of women’s roles in the society and their framing in specific frameworks. Their views differed on the work that suits women. Some of them saw women’s ability to perform any work.

While some felt that women’s physical abilities prevented them from doing some work. At the end of the session, participants presented proposals to raise awareness about women’s rights and freedom to choose the work they love, and to support them to achieve material independence to be effective and influential in society.

The project consists of 60 young men and women of different intellectual orientations and Yemeni regions. They are divided into four groups, each with 15 participants. Each group will hold three sessions to discuss various topics of interest to the community selected by the participants. At a later stage of the project, these visions will be transformed into works of art and drama that will be presented to the public at a public event organized by the Foundation.
