(The Importance of University Degree)Start Conducting the 1st Youth Discussions

On Sunday 21st of October 2018, the first session of “Alternative Views” organized by the Basement Cultural Foundation and supported by The Prince Claus Fond was held.

The first group (consisting of 15 males & females participants) has selected a case (The Importance of University Degree) the group considered this subject a priority for discussion.

There are those who study the specialization in the university because of pressure from thier families and this away from the things he or she really loves and can be creative, and there are those who study because they belief in the importance of university degree in practical life, and there are those who do not believe the importance of university degree and considers it a mere document worthless, and the real importance of experience and skills Acquired.
Is the university degree a criterion for assessment or should one look at skills and experiences? Do employers prefer to have a university degree because of their knowledge and academic level, or prefer those who have practical experience and will not demand a higher salary? Does the university actually add to the student, develop his or her skills and increase his knowledge? Do young Yemenis tend more to get a university degree or have they lost faith in it and resorted to other ways?

The Participants gave diverted perspective of the issue and what considered crucial to the issue, and the participants gave their recommendations of the issue.

Alternative Views project holds 60 participants from diverse cultural\intellectual backgrounds and Yemeni provinces; distributed in four groups each holds 15 participants (gender-balanced), each group holds 3 sessions each discusses an issue society-related selected by participants, in the end of the session, the group generates recommendations for each discussed issue; to transform them into painting artworks, theatre, and to be displayed in a public event.
