About Project

Tell Me Your Tale “Ehki”is a project in which Basement aims to promote the experiences of active Yemeni women who have faced the difficulty of the war positively through art. Basement gather women who worked to resolve conflicts, achieve peace, promote coexistence in society, and help those affected by the war and providing them chance to tell their stories and raising their skills in telling stories. Also, Basement work with artists to reflect the stories into art work.

Ehki Photography Competition

The idea of ​​the competition lies in the work of advocacy campaign and the use of photography art to express the issue of women’s positive participation in Yemen during the war, and the production of artistic work documenting scenes of the reality of this role.
The objectives of the competition focused on:
– Supporting attention to women’s issues and their positive role in the society with photographers.
– Spreading images of the positive role of Yemeni women during the war on a large scale.
– Supporting public participation in the selection of images that reflect the positive role of women in war.
Stages of the competition:
– A photo contest on the subject of women’s positive participation in Yemen during the war was presented on the Facebook page of the Basement Foundation.
– Entries received from 15 October 2018 to 14 November 2018.
– 12 images were received and 9 pictures were chosen for the contest and its objectives.
– The participating photos were displayed on the Facebook page of Basement (9 photos) for a week from 22 November to 29 November for the public to vote for 50% of the winner’s selection.
– A group of professional and gender-oriented photography artists was selected as a jury to determine the remaining 50% for the selection of the three winning images.
The three winning pictures were chosen based on the selection of the judging panel and the public vote.
