Event 406 – “Fi Rabe’e Al-Huda”

On 7th of November 2019, Basement Cultural Foundation has held its 406th event of the Knowledge Exchange Forum titled “Fi Rabe’e Al-Huda” as a symbolic celebration of the prophetic birth, presented by the chanter Redwan Sa’sa’ah, he is a religious chanter and a Sanaani music singer, and he performed multiple religious chants that were admired by the audience.

 

Then, the event switched to introduce the exhibition of the day titled “Ink and Charcoal” by the young architect and artist Ghadeer Yahya. She thanked her parents, siblings and colleagues for their limitless support. Later on, her university’s president also gave a briefed speech about Ghadeer and her family’s role appreciating their serious support to their daughter. Finally, the exhibition was open to the attendees. 

 

Event 405 – “The importance of emotions and emotions in the life of the individual and society”

As part of the Knowledge Exchange Forum activity, on Thursday 31 October 2019, the 405th event entitled “The importance of emotions and emotions in the life of the individual and society” was held, Presented by Dr. Nabeel Al-Awdi, a consultant oncology, and a doctor at Kuwait University Hospital. The event is accompanied by the exhibition entitled “The Silent Soul” by the artist Amna Al-Matari, who considers that her artistic career is the main part of her life since childhood.

Jihad Ba-Break started by introducing the event, allowing Dr. Al-Awdi to share his thoughts. Opening thanks to the audience, he stated that most of the things we think we know are the ones we don’t understand. Moving between the functional roles of biological and sociological and their overlap with each other in the composition of human and thus society, and from the diseases and it is its effects on physical health  and some common diseases. Then read some of the statements of senior thinkers related to the subject of the lecture, and then comply with what are the emotions and how to be negative and positive, and what types of emotions and how to differentiate between them.

He mentioned the function of emotions, as an adaptive function, and as a pushing force. And he distinguished between many feelings such as love and what separates it from narcissism, and ownership love, and its reflection on the family, as well as some imbalances, such as the lack of feelings of empathy and their association with crime, noting that there are educational barriers may come through instances of imbalance, and how to work to make it balanced.

Then, Dr. Nabil Al-Oudi explained the role of emotions in the success of life by tracking some intelligent, tolerance and flow relationships, mentioning the most important statistics that were established on people with high IQ, and that there are common indicators among them to help them flow and creativity. also mentioned the influence of emotions in the life of society, fanatic attitudes, emotional activity in the case of intolerance, and how to manipulate the emotions of those of the emotional characters. Moving between certain beliefs, how it felt conscious about these emotions and how to turn them into Legendary characters, and other personalities, answering that the ancient peoples believed that these things are personalities, but in the abstract form are feelings have been embodied in personalities, as they had been proved to  be related to the mind. Turning to the types of emotional intelligence, mentioning philosophers and writers who talked about these topics such as Avicenna, Leo Tolostoy and others.

Moving on to the biological form, he also addressed the division of the brain and the training of the brain since childhood, the functional role of the brain and how to comply it to society, the balance between the mind and the emotional mind, the consumer culture, the differences between the natural brain and the brain that suffers from emotions and how they are faster than thinking because they instinctively instilled in us. Finally, go between some of the pictures that explain the subject and commenting briefly.

Then the stage moved to Amna al-Matari, a young artist who has loved art since her childhood, and considered this exhibition as a challenge for her, the first of her artistic career. She talked about her beginnings in painting, the idea of drawing a challenge, and sharing her drawing with groups on social media sites, and telling the public that her father had a big role in encouraging her to draw from her imagination and not to convey the image. Before opening the exhibition, Nabil Kassem commented with great admiration for the different exhibition and her  high level work. Before the opening the exhibition, the painter shared a short video showed the moments of the painting. Then, the exhibition opened to attend.

 

Event 404 – The output of the photography workshop

On Thursday, October 17, 2019, Basement held the 404th event of  Knowledge Exchange Forum in which it reviewed the output of the photography workshop which was under the activity of the “Ideas Workshop” which was supported by Mocha Seeds. Beside the event there were a musical performance by the artist Alaa Nabil.

The event started with two songs performed by Alaa Nabil. Then began to introduce the exhibition with a speech by Abdul Rahman Hamdan, where he mentioned the stages of work and the diversity of mechanisms until reaching the format of the existing exhibition. Bashir Al Bahlouli, one of the participants in the exhibition, thanked Mr. Hamdan and Khaled Ishaq for their hard work and Mocha Seeds for their support of the exhibition, stressing the positive role they play in supporting the country’s economy and promoting Yemeni coffee.

After the introduction, Alaa sang again with the audience’s interaction. Finally, the exhibition was opened for attendance.

Fifteen trainees, who had previously participated in a photo worksop of Abdul Rahman Hamdan and Khalid Ishaq, participated in the exhibition, the 8th workshop of the Ideas Workshop, which lasted for a week..

 

Event 403 – “Thirty Years of Poetry – A Testimony and Readings”

On Thursday, September 3, 2019, Basement Cultural Foundation held the 403rd Knowledge Exchange Forum event entitled “Thirty Years of Poetry – A Testimony and Readings” with the poet and the critic Mohammed Abdulwahab Al-Shaibani. Nabil Qasem, a companion of The poet began with a short introduction about Al-Shaibani, passing through the experience of Mohamed Abdel Wahab poetry, and then to give the platform to Al-Shibani who shared a reading of a critique paper about Yemeni poetry, focusing on the most important events experienced by himself during his journey, with some extracts of his poetic works.

Later on, the exhibition “Akasir” was opened by the young artist Rahmana Al-Khamisi, a young multi-talented artist, who talked about her experience in painting and how she started to paint and she thanked all the people to help her with her art journey.  

 

Event No. 400: Art Exhibition – Trabet

Fine artist Laila Yassin held her exhibition “Trabet” (interconnection) on Thursday 25 July 2019 at the Basement Cultural Foundation at the 400th event of the Knowledge Exchange Forum held by the Basement Foundation.
Lily, who has previously participated in local and foreign exhibitions, said she tried to play in her paintings and linked several paintings in one concept. She said she was trying to develop her experience through her exhibitions, taking people’s opinions into account, and that the technique used in her paintings was the same, but the subjects were different.

The artist Nabil Qassem talked about Laila Yassin, who was distinguished by her paintings, and her intelligence by moving away from the trap of the tradition in which the children of the artists are located, despite her belonging to an artistic family.
The artist and architect Yassin Ghaleb talked about the artistic aspect of Laila’s paintings. He drew attention to the technique used in her paintings to fill the patches in the paintings using fabrics in an artistic manner. He wished her and her personal experience every success.

 

Event 399 – Closing Ceremony -Alternative Views

Thursday, July 11, 2019 was the closing event of  activities of the project “Alternative Views”, a project organized by the Basement Cultural Foundation during the past months, which allowed the young men and women to present their different views on social issues, which were then reflected in 12 artworks, among the paintings presented in the exhibition (Contrast) which was conducted last April in which the audience participated in drawing, and an interactive play entitled (case).

At the closing event, a video was presented of the first chapter of the play (case), which was entitled (Waiting for Gedo “Grandpa”). Khaled Al-Muraisi ‘Project Manager’  talked about a Alternative Views  project that aimed to involve young artists in contributing to raising awareness about prominent societal issues through art, to the impact of art and its reach to the largest number of people, and on the other hand to motivate society to interact with art, and to recognize its importance and its role in making change.
Al-Muraisi spoke about the stages of the project, which began by gathering 60 young men and women in focus sessions, distributed in 4 groups, each group discussed three community issues selected by the participants.
The second phase targeted artists and theatrical artists to introduce them to these issues and discuss how to turn them into works of art.
The artists then carried out their works under the auspices of the project.The interactive exhibition (Contrast) was opened on 18 April 2019, in which 12 paintings were presented, each dealing with a different issue, and the public was allowed to give their own touches to copies of these paintings, to express their opinion on the issues.  Khaled said that the paintings and some amendments of the public are displayed on the Facebook page of the Foundation, and is still open for amendment to the followers of the page.
The second artistic output of the project was the interactive play (case) that was presented on Saturday, June 29, 2019, and discussed a set of these issues, and consisted of two chapters: (waiting for Gedo “Grandpa”) and (A cup of Tea). Khalid spoke about the audience’s distinctive interaction, participation in the discussion and role play to present their vision on these issues.

At the end of the event, Khalid Al-Muraisi thanked the young men and women participating in the project.

 

 

Event 398- Exhibition “Anamly Tarsam”

On Thursday, July 4, 2019, the group “ Anamly Paint My Future ” held a plastic art exhibition entitled “ Feather Anamly ” at the Basement Cultural Foundation, where it exhibited paintings of Yemeni artists as part of the group’s activities.
At the opening of the exhibition, the artist Kamel Kamel, the founder of (Anamly Tarsam Mostakbali) talked about the beginning of the group’s journey, which was created on the social networking site Facebook on 27 December 2018, and was announced and launched on 1 January 2018. Its objectives were to revive the artistic movement in Yemen, pay attention to the emerging talent, and encourage them to acquire technical skills by following talented people and giving them lessons in art workshops offered by the group, and holding exhibitions and art competitions from time to time.
Kamel said that the group includes more than 600 Yemeni artistic talents, has held more than six art exhibitions in the capital, and an art workshop, and the group also organized a contest between talents winners won cash prizes.
At the end of the speech, the artist thanked Kamel Foundation for hosting this exhibition.
Dr. Nabil Al-Oudi, a specialist in pediatrics and interested in arts and culture, talked about the exhibition in which young artistic talents emerged and stressed the importance of arts in societies and their positive impact.
Kamel Kamel presented certificates of honor on behalf of the group to the participating artists.

Event 397 -(Contrast)Art Exhibition – Alternative Views

On Thursday, April 18, 2019, Basemant Cultural Foundation held a final art exhibition for the results of Alternative Views activity. The exhibition included 12 paintings each carrying a social issue previously adopted by a group of young men and women in previous workshops. The event began with a definition of activity and a review of 12 issues expressed by the chairmen of the four groups. The artists then explained the idea of their works to the public. In the latter, the Foundation asked the audience to interact with the paintings by adding and modifying the parts of the paintings. The aim of the activity is to reduce the gap between artists and young people and to try to integrate artists in the expression of issues of society.
