Colors from Yemen was a gallery that has held in basement cultural foundation the morning of 17th Jan 2019 for a group of Yemeni artists from several Yemeni cities whom their works were an output of an artistic workshop under the guidance of Ajantha association, supervised by Ghada Al-hadad and coordinated by Abdullsallam Al-Miri.

The event was started by a Yemeni heritage song performed by the junior singer Abdullrahman Mohammed Marqan .

Ghada talked about the workshop and how the participants were given all the freedom to work at their comfort zones so they can express their ideas and views into their paintings without any restrictions.

After that Raja’a talked about the participants by pointing to their paintings and how it transferred the colors of the Yemeni environment as Mister Abdullsallam mentioned that the motherland is the human, environment, history and the ambitions of the future in addition to that this workshop was sponsored by German student association to sponsor humanitarian activities in Yemen.

Before the guests headed to see the gallery, the participants had been honored on stage.

391- Immortal in Coffee Reflections

An art event was held on Thursday’s morning of the 3rd of Jan 2019 at Basement cultural foundation.

The event had a fine art gallery called “Immortal in Coffee Reflections” directed by Ms. Altaf Hamdi a researcher in art cultural philosophy in which she presented famous Yemenis by her coffee artworks expressing the Yemeni culture in her own way.

A poem named as “Coffee in Poetry cup” read by Mr. Mohammed Al-Shamiri who expressed his passion for coffee.

After that an enchanting musical break was performed by the  pianist Adham Al-Dhubaibi and the guitarist Mustafa Al-Sufiani.

Basement debate guide

In an event was held at Basement cultural foundation on 27th December 2018 where the foundation ended its annual activities by issuance Basement publications for Spaces project in which the foundation presented public debates with many activities included in the art of debate.

Khaled Al-Muraisi the project manager did a presentation on the publications in which he talked about basement strategies in managing debates through the years since 2009 and how the foundation established Spaces project for debates to make such an activity regular.

Mr.Khaled talked about the project precisely and how the foundation trains the participants by trying and using different universal patterns leading to determine and select a special strategy for the foundation in holding such an activity. A strategy in which basement developed based on the known universal patterns and the experiments that have been held in Spaces project.

After that Khaled presented the debate guide that basement made featuring Mr. Abdullsalam Al-Shuraihi contained an indoor to the art of debate.

Ms. Ahd Al-Hadhrami a postgraduate student and a fine art artist continued the event by talking about her first fine art gallery presenting her special experience in painting. With colorful bright technicism Ahd paints girls with enchanting eyes that made the guests breathtakingly questioning her passion on eyes giving her answer to startle them “I love eyes because it’s the indoor to everyone. It says what tongue can’t say.”

Musical breaks were permeated the event performed by the oudist Emad Al-Swaidi the author of the musical and art of Maqamat book “made by your magic” who has been playing oud for 10 years and teaching it for 5 years.

 

 

 

389- A Study On Cultural Policies

On Thursday’s morning of 13th Dec 2018 Mr. Hisham Al-Asbahi the CEO of “Dhamanat Association” presented a project for the local initiative and the cultural foundations that were implemented with “The Cultural Source” as a sponsor.

He talked about the goals, the main ideas and the cultural papers of the project as well as mentioning the difficulties that faced the project and the role of the digital development in that field.

He also presented a book that talks about the cultural policies and the details of this project that Mr. Nabil Al-Khader prepared and gave it away for the guests.

The event included an art gallery for paintings on glass was tilted as “A Melody and color” which is an output of a workshop supervised by Widad Al-Ghurbani in Basement cultural foundation.

 

 

388- One Opinion Can’t Clap

On the morning of 29th of November 2018 in basement cultural foundation a conclusive event for “Alternative Views’ program was held. A program in which basement works on it to turn the issues that are important for youth and society into artworks. The participants talked about the issues that were discussed in the first stage, in addition the event included a fine art and photography gallery for Art Booster team. Jehad Babreak the activity officer talked about the procedure for selecting the participants to select 60 male and female. The output of this early stage of the program reflected an outstanding awareness of those youth regarding 12 issues that were discussed by 4 groups each group contained of 15. Shaima’a Jamal the executive director talked about the program and the sponsor of this program which is Prince Claus Fund.

The event was a launching stage for the later stages of this program in which the foundation would receive applications for participation from many artists in order to turn the outputs of this program into artworks as was mentioned before and present it in later events.

After that everyone headed to the first gallery for Art Booster team.

The gallery consisted of three groups. First group “Yemen Beauty” were Photographs that showed scenes from many Yemeni cities.

The second group were about fine artworks named “Eve”.

The last group of photographs were taken for sky and stars.

 

387- Tell Me Your Tale

20 Yemeni women were able to tell their stories in the event that has been held by Basement cultural foundation on the 15th of November 2018.

10th of those stories were told on the stage by the women themselves, while the other 10th were told by works of art that have been made by many fine artists such as; Lilla Yaseen, Adham Al-zakeri,

Ghada Al-hadad, Nizar Al-Sanafani, Nahlah Al-Sallami, Fahmi Al-Hababi, Jehad JarAllah,

Mohammed Al-Hashidi, Hanan Al-Obaidi and Jalal Al-Shamiri; by representing how those women did an impact in the society during this ongoing war.

During the event a musical break were performed by the pianist Amjad Al-Dhubaibi and the singer Norhan Khaled.

Basement viewed these stories to point at those unknown everyday heroines whom do whatever it takes to rich a better Yemeni society.

 

 

386- An Engineer’s Quill

A gallery was held by The Engineering Studio on the 8th of November 2018.

The event was called “An Engineer’s Quill” where 120 works of art made by those engineers were introduced at the Basement cultural foundation.

This event was a platform to risen up the Yemeni engineer by given a message that Yemeni engineer is as qualified as any other engineer around the world.

 

 

371- Shadow and light exhibition

 Basement Cultural Foundation resumed its activities in 2018 with an art exhibition for a group of young Yemeni women artists entitled “Shadow and Light” at the Knowledge Exchange Forum on Thursday, January 11, 2018.

Presented in (shadow and light) paintings by artists participating in the workshop of free drawing provided by the Foundation in October and lasted for a month and a half in the activity (workshop ideas), where the artists were selected from the middle level in the drawing, were trained in advanced drawing techniques using light And the shadow, and was trained by the artist Mohammed Soufan.

369- “Design With Yamani Style” Competition by Contrast Design

On Wednesday, November 29, 2017, the event was organized by Contrast Design Studio, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture at the Basemant Cultural Foundation, where the winners of the “Design With Yameni Style” competition were honored.

The contest aims at reviving the identity of Yemeni heritage and involving a large number of individuals and civil society organizations in thinking about the importance of reviving the original Yemeni style and helping the hidden talents to bring them into existence.

The competition aims to provide job opportunities by introducing participants through direct communication with the attendees from the owners of money and businessmen.

The event was attended by 30 participants, who started by honoring all the contestants. They were honored by Professor Amat Al-Razzaq Jahaf, Deputy General Authority for Preservation of Historical Cities, Dr. Mohammed Faye, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Lebanese University, The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Culture Hoda Ablan, who opened the event with a speech thanking the contestants.

The winners were announced after the judging of the members of the jury and the public vote. The vote took 10% of the final decision.

368 – We are the children of tomorrow

International Children’s Day Basement Cultural Foundation celebrated with creative children at the Knowledge Exchange Forum on Thursday, November 23, 2017, entitled “We are children of Tomorrow”. Where a group of young artists presented their creations in the areas of painting, digital design, singing and playing.

The event began with guitarist Elias Amiri, who was recently chosen by UNICEF as a children’s representative in Yemen. Elias learned to play by himself and then began learning it for months by a professional trainer.

Eight-year-old singer Serena Mohammed has also performed a violin . Serena has learned to play for a month and a half and is also learning ballet.

At the age of 10, Heba Amin studied programming language (Scratch). She has her own blog on the Internet. She draws her paintings using digital design programs. She presented an interesting piece entitled Digital Art, in which she presented her various artistic works. Some of her ideas from the Yemeni fashion and architecture. She also painted international works and cartoon characters in her modern style and added to her own touches, in an attractive manner, offering her unique creative ideas.

Doha al-Maqaleh, 14 years old, paints most of her paintings using sprays, and paints with water colors and acrylic colors. She spoke about the paintings of her exhibition, in which she painted cosmic natural phenomena in a magical manner. She explained the meaning of some of them and left some to be understood by visiters.

The young artist, Judy Abdelalem, presented two popular songs, Judy, at the age of 10, who learned to sing by herself and aspires to be a scholar when she grows up.

The sixth talented painter Yusuf Barout, at the age of eleven, presented several paintings that spoke about the meanings and expressions, and he participated in the past events and art exhibitions.

In the end, Iyad Al-Barout and Janine Al-Hakimi thanked the participants and their families for their support. Basement Cultural Foundation opens its next program of activities, where a special event will be dedicated to children each month, where young people will present their creations in various artistic, literary and scientific fields. Children who want to participate to display their work without hesitation, as does not require the institution to participate in these events a high level of professionalism, but embraces the first steps of the young, to express their feelings and their view of life freely.

Basement Cultural Foundation aims to create a free artistic space and open participation for all without conditions through its various activities  such as the Knowledge Exchange Forum where artistic and literary performances such as this one are held every Thursday morning, Ideas offering free training courses in various fields for young and old, space activities, discussion sessions, Lumière cinema and others.

 

The event ended with another guitarist, Elias Amiri. The audience then went to see the paintings of the participating artists’ exhibition, “The Glare of Childhood.”
