اWriting is an expression of identity and self, a way to express opinions and to make a positive change in reality. 

 

Therefore, Basement held an activity for writing in the alternative policies campaign.

 

The activity goal is to encourage the participants on writing, to provide a comfortable space to practice freedom of expression and to build their writing capacity by proposing methods to develop their techniques of writing.

 

The activity targets 8 participants, who have a will to develop their skill, and participate in writing activities.

 

The main outcome of the activity is a booklet that includes all participants’ works.

الكتابة تعبير عن الهوية والذات، ووسيلة لعرض الرأي، وصناعة الأثر والتغيير الإيجابي على أرض الواقع. من هذا المنطلق أقامت مؤسسة بيسمنت ضمن مشروع سياسات بديلة نشاط: “نكتب لنكون”.   يهدف هذا النشاط إلى تشجيع المشاركين على الكتابة، وتهيئة بيئة مناسبة لهم للتعبير بحرية، وكسر حاجز الصعوبة لديهم، وصقل موهبتهم عن طريق اقتراح وسائل تمكّنهم من اكتشاف طرقهم الخاصة في الكتابة.   يستهدف النشاط 8 من المشاركين/ات، تم اختيارهم بناءً على استعدادهم الذاتي، واعتماداً على مدى حماسهم ورغبتهم في الكتابة، واكتساب أدواتها المناسبة.

Publishing was one of the most important goals for the foundation, and it had prepared two books for publication, but the lack of resources was main obstacles against this will. And with this book, Basement Cultural Foundation starts its first publishing experience.

 With this book, the foundation engages in the world of investigation journalism, which is not well used in Yemen for many reasons, although the rapidly increasing number of journals in the country, it is used for political agenda and producing violence. The lack of investigation journalism methods is one of the main obstacles to build trust and transparency between the government and the citizen and makes democracy applicable.

 

 Many titles are on the waiting list to be published like this book, we are presuming that they will be soon enough, our movement may be slow but it is confident and careful, and we will let this book speaks on its behalf.

 

 We also want to note that some of these articles were published under the permission of Areej Organization team, we would never have published a book with this quality without their assistance, and we have a special gratitude for them!

2- Art Of Speech

There is an obvious separation status between Yemeni citizens and socio-political speeches; repeated speeches and unknown socio-political phrases are the main reasons for this separation, furthermore, these speeches do not affect their lives.

The idea of “art of speeches” is to create new forms of speeches, in which it is crossing-over the usual speeches used by elites, comprehensible, it is explaining the importance of the issue and how close it is to the public.

1- Creative campaigns

Basemant selected three participants (a comedy artist, a Cartoonism , a political activist) to create new campaigns in the fight against corruption in government institutions (bureaucracy of government institutions). We discussed this issue with comedy, drawing and puppet shows.

The media campaigns were chosen for many reasons, the most important of which is that the human rights work in Yemen has become so repeated that the citizen no longer believes in his credibility. The citizen regards human rights as a work to bring money only. Moreover, after this work, Before the general public who finds it difficult to digest political and legal concepts.

The issue of government corruption has been chosen because it is the most obvious issue on the local and even regional levels, .

where this phenomenon is seen in everyday life very clearly and also directly….
