Art is the Daughter of Freedom
Art is the Daughter of Freedom: A campaign targeted Yemenis artists, who are suffering in our country, especially from difficulty of expression freely; because of the nature of the conservative environment in which they live.
After the announcement of the campaign in the January 25, 2014 in partnership with the German Agency, we received letters from artists in which they were prevented from presented their work either because of political, religious or any other reasons. We wondered a lot in what to do to support these artists.
We organized the campaign and we collected 50 Yemeni artists from various fields in public events in order to establish a declaration protects freedom of expression for Yemeni artists and supports their right to practice their right for expression and creativity in their works.
We produced a documentary video containing some interviews with artists they talk about the difficulties and political, social and intellectual barriers that stand in front of them and in front of their artwork. Also we organized “Raseef Al fan” in February 13, 2014, this public event aimed to make artists and their art works closer to the street and be out of closed halls.
The events included a presentation for some art works for artists supported the campaign and participated to spread out the goals of the campaign to make more effects. And some artists tried to encourage other artists and amateurs to interact and display their artworks in the street.
We organized this event in Bab al-Yemen, a historic tourist place that is aged over 1000 years which is located on the south side of the Sana’a city.
It was planned that the program includes a presentation of the documentary «Karama Has no walls» inscribed on the list of Academy Award competition for documentaries, but the bombings that targeted Central prison that day prevented the program to continue. After that we organized at basement an event in February 15, 2014 about caricature art in which Hamid Almsora prime caricature association spoke about the importance of this art and its impact on social and political criticism, which may exceeded the articles and press reports effect. Also we talked about the most important obstacles facing this satirical art.
