Basement Cultural Foundation held three public debates on February 3, 2022 in Sana’a, as part of the activity of “Spaces”. Each debate included four main rounds. In the first debate, the confrontation was over the thesis: “Yemen should take care of climate change issues at the present time (for or against?)” Suhaya Abdo was as a supporter of the thesis in contrast to Hussain Doan as an opponent of the thesis. Suhaya managed to win 13% of the votes in her favour, which made her win at the end of the debate.
After that, the second debate began on the thesis of “Removing Qat Markets outside the cities will reduce the consumption of it (for or against?”
Amjad Shaabin was the party in favor of the thesis, while Yara Waheed was the party opposed to the thesis. Yara was able to win the debate after she managed to shift the audience’s votes in here favor from 23% of the votes before the debate to 41% of the votes after the debate. In the third and final debate, the confrontation revolved around the thesis “The quality of the work of international organizations helps in the development of Yemeni society (for or against)?” between Asmaa Ahmed as a supporter of the thesis and Omair Muammar as a party opposed to the thesis.

In the end, Omer Muammar was able to win the confrontation after he was able to gain more votes in his favour, from 35% of the votes before the debate to 72% of the votes after the debate. Each of the three debates has dedicated audience interventions to present their questions and comments on the arguments and themes presented by the debaters on each thesis.
