As part of the “Spaces” project, Basement Cultural Foundation held a debate on ““ The Migration of Yemeni Youth Abroad… With or Against? ”. Saturday, September 14, 2019.

The pro-team Perceived the most important arguments that made it support the thesis; immigration does not mean the final alienation and it helps to provide the country with new capabilities and does not develop one’s and the diaspora, but its benefit is reflected on the world. Factors of its economic and biological diversity.

While the opposition team tried to clarify the differences between the phrases immigration and travel: the immigrants withdraw avoid the attempts to develop their countries, while the efforts of integration in their new country of residency could have made a difference in their own countries, not to mention the risk factors in such ventures.

After each round, many attendees participated with comments explaining their stances of migration, and the reasons why they supported the thesis or otherwise; one included statistics indicating that 50% of migrants are originated from the Middle East, and another who believe this step is not a solution; he is originally a refugee in Yemen knows what it means to be a stranger and the impossible attempts of integration with society for many factor. The last comment was about Yemeni diaspora and the role of Yemenis in the industrial revolution in Britain and the United States.

The debate ended with a 23% change in the audience polls for the opposing team. This change of votes was the victory for anti-thesis.
