1st Public Event – Debates on 3 Topics Distance education is effective, Arabic language keeps up with the times and Politics of encouraging women’s employment

On Saturday, October 30, Basement Cultural Foundation, at its headquarters in Sana’a, held three public debates as part of the activity of “Spaces”. Each debate included four main rounds.

In the first debate, the confrontation over the thesis of “Distance education is an effective learning method”… with or against?” Jaber Ahmed managed to win 1% of the votes in his favour, which made him win at the end of the debate.

The second debate was about the thesis “Arabic language keeps up with the times… with or against?” Wehda Nasher was supporting the thesis, while Suleiman Abdullah was opposing the thesis.

Suleiman Abdullah won the debate after he managed to turn the attendees’ votes in his favor from 33% of the votes before the debate to 57% of the votes after the debate. In the third and final debate, the confrontation revolved around the thesis “Politics of encouraging women’s employment… with or against?” Hashid Ali won the confrontation after he managed to gain more votes in his favour, from 13% of the votes before the debate to 53% of the votes after the debate.

Each of the three debates has dedicated attendees’ interventions to present their questions and comments on the arguments and themes presented by the debaters on each thesis.

“Space” is an activity implemented by Basement Cultural Foundation that aims to raise the capabilities of young people in argumentation, rhetoric, and the ability to refute through training them on the manners and basics of debate, the methods of searching for information, and then giving them the opportunity to participate in a public debate through which they can apply the skills they acquired them during training.
